Seventeen of us boarded the 9:15 diesel from Central Station on 8th October for the two-hour trip to Bowral. The very comfortable open-plan carriage meant that we could all sit within talking distance of each other while enjoying the beautiful countryside in its spring colours through the huge observation windows.

Colin, our member from Mittagong, met us at Bowral Station and, with his local knowledge, kept the group together for our leisurely stroll to the Corbett Gardens’ tulip display. He took us to the Arts and Crafts Exhibition and Sale at the Town Hall, and along picturesque streets to the Bradman Oval and Museum and St. Jude’s Rectory gardens.

Then it was on to a local pub for a convivial counter lunch and beers. Until the train departure time approached, we browsed through the many antique and craft shops in the main street.

The weather was brisk, but we were all suitably clothed and everyone saidthat it was a great day out! For those who had Senior’s Cards, the total cost of the day was about $10.

John and I propose to arrange a day-trip on the Zig-Zag Railway near Lithgow fairly soon.
